A former heroin addict became the inspiration behind the song, "Grace Wins," the chart-topping hit by Christian artist Matthew West.

The songwriter narrates the story behind his latest track in a video published on the Christian Post.

Matthew West then shared the story of Robert Muir who, accompanied by his mother, attended a show with the CCM-singer in 2014. At that time Muir was still hooked on drugs, but realized that he needed to turn his life around.

During the show, he came to know about Popwe, the Wests' non-government organization, which then facilitated his enrolment into Christian-based drug rehab facility Teen Challenge. Muir underwent the 14-month cleansing program for free, courtesy of Mathew West and his father, Pastor Joe.

"Stories, just like Rob's, have served as the inspiration to all of the songs I've written, but they've also served as an inspiration to much more - it has become a life-changing journey," West said. "Now I know my mission is to take this idea of story even further."

That's the reason why Matthew West penned "Grace Wins" after knowing first-hand about Muir's successful turnaround, from a life of drugs into becoming an agent of change for other people like him.

"I've had a front row seat to see how God can speak through each of our stories, and when one person stands up and tells their story, another person finds out that they're not alone," he added. "It's time to go from me to we. That's why we started Popwe."
