'Dexter' Spinoff In The Works? Showtime Signs Showrunner Scott Buck to New Two-Year Deal

Dexter is in the middle of its final season (Season 8) and fans are buzzing about how the show will come to a hopefully epic conclusion.

However, there is new news that could add for excitement or agony for Dexter fans depending on how they look at it. Dexter's Showrunner Scott Buck has been signed on to a new two-year deal by Showtime which leads to some interesting rumors swirling that they are not trying to stop.

When asked about the new deal has anything to do with a Dexter spin off, Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins simply said, "draw your own conclusions".

Fans of Dexter first want to make sure that there is a good ending for the Final Season and then move on from there. This seems to be the process that Showtime is taking.

"This is a core franchise to us and all options are on the table as to where it could go after this," Nevins  said. "There's nothing actively happening, but you never know what the future holds. We need to get through this season and see how the dust settles and then see where we go from there. I won't rule it out, but I'm not actively planning anything."

The new spin-off series is speculated to be focused on Dexter's sister Deb. We will see as more information comes out. Obviously if this is true, then that is a spoiler for Dexter's finale knowing that Deb will make it out of the season alive.

Buck is also working on developing a adaptation of Matthew Specktor's novel "American Dream Machine" which features Michael C. Hall as executive producer as well which could be another interesting to keep in mind when it comes out.

"Dexter" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on Showtime. The series finale will air in September.
