'Deadpool' Movie News: Ryan Reynolds Will Not Portray Superhero Characters after Upcoming Movie

During his long acting career, Ryan Reynolds has portrayed a number of superheros, including Hal Jordan alias Green Lantern and Wade Wilson alias Deadpool. Reynolds has portrayed the character of Deadpool in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' and will reprise the role in the upcoming 'Deadpool' movie. Reynolds has now stated that this would be the last time he would be portraying a superhero.

Christian Today reports that in a recent interview with the Huffington Post, Reynolds said that he will no longer play any superhero roles after portraying Wade Wilson in the upcoming 'Deadpool' movie.

The actor told the publication, "We all want to be Batman alone at home in our specifically-sewn Bat pajammies, but no, I have no desire to play any other superheroes after this."

This, however, does not suggest that Reynolds will not don Deadpool's costume again. In case the studio gives the not for a sequel or if the character is included in another 'X-Men' film, the actor will return as the Merc with a Mouth. In fact, Reynolds may still reprise Deadpool's character if it is included in 'Gambit,' which stars Channing Tatum or the third and final 'Wolverine' flick.

Aside from Deadpool, Reynolds does not seem to be eager to portray any other comic book character after 'Deadpool.'

In fact, not all comic book super heroes portrayed by Reynolds have fared well. The 'Green Lantern' film was acclaimed by critics, but it was a financial disappointment for Warner Bros. following which the studio decided to alter its plans and instead use "Man of Steel" as the first film in the DC Cinematic Universe. Even 'Blade Trinity' and 'RIPD' flopped at the box office bombs and were also not received well by fans and critics alike.

However, the upcoming 'Deadpool' movie disregards the events in 'X-Men Origins' and serves as a reboot for the character. Irrespective of its success, it will be the time that Reynolds will portray the role of a superhero.
