Hollywood's Year of the Bible Continues With 'David and Goliath' Movie - Is the Film Industry Seeking Redemption?

The return to Biblical epics has been Hollywood's most interesting trend which the industry had not seen the likes of in over 50 years. Starting with The History Channel's "The Bible" miniseries, which led to the theatrical release of "Son of God" and continuing on with secular directors taking on classic Bible narratives such as Darren Arofonsky's "Noah" and Ridley Scott's upcoming film "Exodus: God and Kings" slated to release the end of this year.

The return of Bible inspired films has shown at least a change of interest, if not, a change of heart for what has been considered the most secular generation.

Now, another film can be added to that growing list, the revered and foundational story of David and Goliath. It is a pivotal turning point in the Old Testament for Israel, and ultimately, for Christianity. The difference between this film and the rest is that it will be directed by a Christian, Tim Chey.

However, this will be no small Christian film. It is set for a 1,500 theater release in late 2015, and Chey is still searching to find the perfect actor for the lead. He is planning to cast an unknown so the audience can truly get into the character of David. Chey also will make biblical accuracy a priority, "Hollywood should embrace true Believers to tell Biblical stories," he stated in a press release.

Chey has worked on many faith based films and documentaries such as "Suing the Devil," "Epic Journey," "Final: The Rapture," and "Gone." He is currently producing the film, "Carry Me Home" starring Cuba Gooding Jr., William Sadler, and Sharon Leal.
