Danny Gokey Talks 'Hope in Front of Me’ Writing Process; His Wife Speaks on Supporting Her Husband After Death of First Wife (VIDEO INTERVIEW)

Season 8 "American Idol" finalist and Christian singer Danny Gokey shared some info about his new album and the songwriting process behind it. His wife Leyicet also offers up her views on supporting her husband.

When our BreatheCast reporter told Gokey she had his song "This is What it Means" in her head and proceeded to sing the chorus, the singer felt inclined to join in and then provided some background for the album and song.

"This is from the new album Hope in Front of Me, out June 23rd. It'll be in Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Christian bookstores, but here's the little plug, it's on iTunes and Amazon right now. If you order it right now, on iTunes you get two instant downloads. And it's only $7.99 right now."

He continued, "But anyways, that song was birthed out of my story. I sat down and wrote it with a producer and another writer. She read my book that I released recently called 'Hope in Front of Me,' and she came back with the chorus because I said it in the book. She's like, 'man, this is so powerful.' She came up with the chorus and we finished the song. The head guy, Richard Blackstone, heard the song and said, 'that could be a career song for you.'"

Gokey's testimony and story came across as powerful. One month before his "American Idol" audition, his wife Sophia died after complications during heart surgery. The singer has since remarried Leyicet who is currently pregnant with their second child. She stopped by during the interview and was asked about how she supports her husband as a woman of God.

"God calls us to be a helpmate to our husband's, so it's very important that we're there to support our husbands because when they rise up we encounter our purpose and we find where they need to be, she said. "It's just important to know your roles, if not marriage is hard...it would be a train wreck if both were trying to lead or steer. It's important to know your role, and know what you have to do, and use God's grace, and God will give it to you. That's what I had when I met my husband. It's a lot of grace."

Gokey founded Sophia's Heart Foundation in honor of his first wife. The organization works to help children who are the victims of poverty, disease, broken homes, and other "heart healing" problems that could effect children.
