Danny Gokey Bares His All on 'Hope in Front Me', 'I Didn't Want to Live Any More, but Hope... Pulled Me Through' (VIDEO INTERVIEW)
Season eight "American Idol" finalist Danny Gokey kicked off his first string of shows in New York City and BreatheCast caught up with the pop crooner, after he serenaded the folks at his record company who were there to find out about his upcoming album.
Gokey's second album Hope in Front of Me follows his very successful single of the same name. The album arrives June 23 and the single "Hope in Front of Me" continues to climb the charts.
After a very intimate performance in an office space that was converted into a performance platform, Gokey sat down in a studio at BMG to speak about his upcoming diverse album and his philanthropic work with his foundation, Sofia's Heart.
The 34 year-old spoke to BreatheCast about the tragic loss of his first wife Sofia just a month before he first auditioned for "American Idol." "I didn't want to live any more, but hope was the rope that pulled me through," Gokey said. He started an organization, Sofia's Heart, in 2008 in honor of his late wife which has provided hope and help to homeless families in Milwaukee, Nashville and Sacramento. Sofia's Heart provides scholarships to deserving students and has a thriving inner city Music & Arts program.
Gokey is ever so eager for the world to hear his new original music. For the first time the singer wrote all the songs of the album and each one has their own unique sound and diverse style. "It's incredibly different than the first album," Gokey said during his interview.
His 11-track album features production from award winning producers Bernie Herms (Natalie Grant, Ruben Studdard, Barbara Streisand and Andrea Bocelli) Keith Thomas (Amy Grant, BeBe and CeCe Winans) and Josh Crosby (Cher, Owl City, Adam Lambert, Britt Nicole and Mat Kearney).
