80-year-old convicted serial killer Charles Manson, popularly known as the leader of Helter Skelter, plans to marry a 26-year-old woman who has abandoned her life for almost a decade to try and acquit him.

The Associated Press (AP) got wind of the marriage and viewed The Kings County marriage license on Monday. The document was issued Nov. 7 for Manson and Afton Elaine Burton. The two have until the beginning of February to be married before the license expires.

Although Manson is convicted for the murders of seven people, including pregnant actress Sharon Tate, Burton is deeply in love and insists that he did not commit the killings. The musician turned cult leader is currently serving life in prison.

Burton, who also goes by the name "Star," has several websites advocating his innocence. The young woman told AP that she and Manson would be married next month.

"Y'all can know that it's true," she said, "It's going to happen. I love him... I'm with him... There's all kinds of things."

Burton reportedly wants to marry Manson because that would make her privy to knowledge that only family members have access to, and in return that could help her exonerate Manson.

The sister of one of Manson victims, Debra calls the forthcoming marriage "ludicrous" and believes Manson is still in the business of mind control. "The devil is alive and well," she says of the convicted killer.

"I think it's insane," she said of the marriage, "What would any young woman in her right mind want with an 80-year-old man?"

Manson was the mastermind behind the killings his cult members carried out. Manson believed in what he called "Helter Skelter". Helter Skelter was supposed to be the impending apocalyptic race war, which he described in his own version of the lyrics to the popular Beatles' song of the same name. He alleged he was Jesus and his murders would help precipitate that war.
