Should Christians Have Fun? Rapper Andy Mineo Criticized For Comical Message in Music [VIDEO]

Andy Mineo

Andy Mineo's latest video "Paisano's Wylin," along with a new song he is featured on is the brunt of a wave of new complaints about his Christian "message."

The Christian community has surely embraced Christian hip-hop in 2014 along with others in the mainstream community. Mineo's Reach Records label mate, Lecrae, even had the No.1 album on the Billboard charts this year. Despite the overwhelming support received by fans, Mineo is constantly being criticized for his carefree approach to art.

Many in the Christian community are not fond of Mineo's recent release "Paisano's Wylin" ft. Marty of Social Club. The songs lyrics are a playful mockery of Mineo's Italian culture.

"What is this? How is it glorifying the name of Jesus??" one questioned on the video's comment section. That comment is a statement that surprisingly shared the sentiment of many other messages on the thread. Some even went as far as to assume that Mineo was departing from promoting the Christian message and was "selling out."

Mineo's supporters of course commented back by explaining some of the rappers lyrics. "Red wine represents Jesus' blood... Referring to irresistible grace.?" "Red wine on everything... When I say red wine I don't mean where the booze at, I'm talking an offer, you just can't refuse that," Mineo raps.

Others were concerned as to where the line between fun and ministry is supposed to be drawn. "It's a problem when unbelievers can't tell the difference between the Christians and those who don't have Christ," another noted.

If the criticism of the native New Yorker's video was not enough, he is featured on the release of "his new artist," Words Played, and that has caused an even bigger stir.

The video for the song title "Martinelli" was released on New Years Eve and shows both Mineo and Words Played drinking and celebrating with Martinelli like some do with alcohol. Martinelli is a sparkling cider but comes in bottles that resemble alcoholic drinks.

"I don't like this progressive trajectory towards mainstream under the free artistic expression banner," some one posted, "Less and less overt Jesus references in verses but increased self expression."

Although some have a problem with Mineo's sense of humor many believe it's just plain fun and that is exactly what Jesus would want for his followers. What are your thoughts? Leave your comments in the section below.
