There are numerous reports that claim actor Matt Damon will return as Jason Bourne in the upcoming film Bourne 5.

However, film producer Frank Marshall addressed the rampant rumor in a new interview regarding Damon's return to the series.

"It's simply not true," said Marshall to The Hollywood Reporter, "(Director) Justin Lin is working with Andrew Baldwin on an Aaron Cross script/story that they pitched us a few months ago. I talk to Justin all the time and the script is not ready."

Marshall also revealed the release date of the upcoming fifth installment of the action spy film franchise.

"It's a summer movie, and if we don't start preproduction now, we can't make next summer. Therefore, it's a wise decision to move to 2016," said the longtime Bourne producer.

Damon previously starred in the popular action adventure movie trilogy: The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) before the Avengers: Age of Ultron star Jeremy Renner took over the lead role as Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy film two years ago.

Damon previously discussed why he did not reprise his role in the fourth Bourne film.

"It was sobering. It didn't really feel like a rough ride at the time. I did have a couple of movies that didn't work and some of them had big enough budgets that people cared and so basically my phone just stopped ringing" said Damon to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2012 in a celebrity roundtable featuring several famous actors such as Denzel Washington, Richard Gere and Jamie Foxx to name a few.

"That was because they did not have a script for one with Jason Bourne. They had a different one they wanted to do. You know, I was always open to doing it with Paul Greengrass the director and they just never had a script and a lot of times what happens to these big budgets movies is that they will get a release date and they will book everyone's time, and they'll just send you off to a location with no script and that's your problem then you will have to figure it out...I didn't want to put myself in that situation again 'cause that takes years out of your life doing that. I'd rather have a script and go through it in a sensible way."

Bourne 5 is slated to arrive in movie theaters on July 15, 2016.
