'Black Sails' Season 4 Release Date, News: Fourth Season Happening; Set For Jan. 2017 Premiere

"Black Sails" season 4 is officially happening, and it is not new to everyone that its return isn't just a castle in the air. Starz has so much confidence in the show that it had officially confirmed its 4th installation even before season 3 went into production.

Now that season 3 has already sailed away and season 4 is coming in, producers of the show are starting to give tidbits of details about what pirate fans should expect in the upcoming installation.

In an interview with Inverse, show producers Jonathan Steinberg and Robert Levine revealed that season 4 will not only follow the relationship of John Silver and James Flint as it reaches a new platform, but will also reveal the reason behind the notoriety of Black Beard and Long John Silver.

According to Steinberg, season 4 will explore more of Silver's and Madi's characters. He also complimented the characterization of actor Luke Arnold, saying "he has really been impressive."

As for Madi, he said: "Madi is another character we knew was going to be relevant, but becomes pretty relevant pretty quickly."

The director also said that the upcoming season will be about finding a new Charles Vane in the "Black Sails" universe. He died in the previous season and the new character to take his place would have quite big shoes to fill, given the kind of ecstasy that Vane had brought into the show.

Producers of the show recently announced that "Black Sails" will be launched sometime in January 2017.
