Angelina Jolie is being criticized for allegedly leaving out the powerful details on the conversion of Christian American hero Louis Zamperini in upcoming film 'Unbroken'.

Academy Award winning actress Jolie signed on to direct the film about Italian-American World War II prisoner, war survivor, former Olympic distance runner, and Christian inspirational speaker Zamperini. Although it sounds like a great project, evangelical leader, Greg Laurie, who is close to Zamperini expressed his disappointment claiming that the actress leaves out the most important part of his friend's life.

"I'm disappointed that director Angelina Jolie has chosen to leave this vital and essential part of Louis Zamperini's life out of this much anticipated film," Laurie told the Christian Post. "To me, the most amazing part of his story is not just surviving the incomprehensible beatings in the Japanese internment camp, or being adrift at sea for over 47 days. It was the fact that Louis was able, because of his conversion and newfound Christian faith, to go back to Japan to the very guards who mistreated him and forgive them, as well as tell them about Jesus Christ."

The movie is a gripping survival tale depicting the life of Zamperini. In a past interview the actress sat down with Zamperini and reporter Tom Brokaw for an interview on the Today Show to discuss the film.

Jolie who noticeably and admittedly has much love and respect for Zamperini said she found herself "lost" as to the direction of her life, Zamperini's was living right across the street from her Los Angeles home.

"And I've been sitting in my room laying there thinking, 'What am I supposed to be doing with my life? I wanna do something important ... I need some help. I need some guidance. Where is it?'" she points up and says, "it was right outside my window," she said.

Jolie admitted that the film had become "very personal" to her. "(I feel) such a huge responsibility to get it right, because I love (Zamperini) so much, and because he's helped me so much in my life," she said.

Zamperini became a born again Christian after attending a crusade led by evangelist Billy Graham in 1949. Graham later helped Zamperini launch his career as a Christian inspirational speaker.

Zamperini went to be with the Lord at age 97 in July of 2014 and did not live to see the film, but his pal Laurie maintains that the movie is missing a very vital portion of Zamperini's life.

"The fact of the matter is, if Louis Zamperini had not met Jesus Christ at a Billy Graham Crusade, his story could have ended far differently. Suffering from severe PTSD and plummeting into alcoholism, Louis could easily have died," Laurie told the Christian Post, "But his life was changed, and he was, as he told me personally, 'instantly healed of PTSD' as well as his dependence on alcohol."
