Android 5.0 L Update Release Date Rumors: Roll Out of Google’s Latest Firmware This Fall?

Even though Google has confirmed the Android 5.0 L, its latest mobile operation system, at the I/O 2014 conference last summer, they have yet to confirm the release date. However, new reports have surfaced saying the OS will be released in the coming weeks.

However, a Developer Preview is already availabe for download, but pertains to certain devices like the Google Nexus 5 and 7, to name a few.

On Oct. 2, Android Geeks commented in a post that as far as their Android updates are concerned, Google has revamped their plans, and that the release of the Android L 5.0 will be its first endeavor in this a direction.

Provided Google drops the whole Summer and mid-Fall update release patterns and simply follows Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhnoe 6 Plus launch dates, it is likely that the Android 5.0 will be available this Fall, together with the latest Nexus device lineups.

While Google has yet to reveal the official name of the new Android platform, speculation suggests that the new firmware update likely to be called Lollipop, basing on the name of its would-be predecessor, Android 4.4 OS KitKat. This belief gains ground from the fact that Google has a unique choice to address their operating systems as sweets and desserts in alphabetical order.

In fact, it should not be surprising if the OS is even called Licorice or Lemon Meringue Pie.

Even thought the new operating system has not been officially released, device manufacturers have already tested out the Developer Preview. Sam Mobile tried out the early version on a Samsung Galaxy S5 running on an updated TouchWiz user interface with the Android L 5.0 (LRW58J). Sam Mobile released an 8-minute video, wherein it concluded that the Android L 5.0 is still bound for further improvements.

"Initially, we wanted to make the firmware available for every Samsung fanatic out there. However, after testing it for two days, we decided that it was not suitable for everyday use, as it contains a plethora of bugs and is slow as a turtle, so we won't be publishing the build online," it stated.
