'The Ring' New Movie News: Prequel Film Announced - Titled 'Rings'

It has recently been announced that the popular horror franchise 'The Ring' is in development for spawning a prequel film titled 'Rings' directed by F. Javier Gutierrez and starring Italian actress Matilda Lutz.

According to a report from Bloody Disgusting, the film "takes place before the 2002 remake that starred Naomi Watts as a woman uncovering the mystery behind a haunted VHS tape. Rings will take place years before the creation of said tape and tell the origin of Samara's reign of terror."

In the first film its revealed that Samara was a tortured young girl, but it never got into the story on how the cursed video tape was created. The original tape in the movie featured a bunch of very jaded and frightening images that killed the viewer in seven days of watching it.

"The franchise is based on a series of Japanese films called Ringu, and in 2000 they released a movie called Ring 0: Birthday. That film takes place 30 years before their first film, and it tells the story of how Sadako (Samara) was murdered when she was 19 years old and became cursed," writes Geek Tyrant.

The movie has been slated for release on November 13th, 2015.
