Adam McInnis – Kelly Blog [ Adam McInnis ]
Mon, Sep 22, 2008 @ 12:57 PM PST

I’m usually pretty good at writing most of my feelings down I think it’s important because when you say something there’s so much more in a word or a conversation that you can forget unless you’re taping it. There are inflections and hidden meanings depending on your tone and pitch but when you write something you have no choice but to read it back to yourself the same way you initially felt it. I hesitated writing this blog because it has to do with my sister who just passed away last week.

Truth be told, I didn’t know her all too well so when hearing of her death I was in a confused state of emotions. Should I be angry, sad, or happy that she was now with the Lord and our other family members? You see whenever I would go spend time with my family on holidays or vacations my sister was nowhere to be found, and over the years it just became the norm. We’d all be at Christmas dinner or handing out gifts and someone would say “Where’s Kelly?” and the room would get quiet. The shut lips and wandering eyes meant only one thing, she was out doing drugs. I guess we all became accustomed to this. We became numb.

Looking back on our lives growing up I can see how our family tried and tried to help her so much. But somewhere inside she had gone numb as well, her light slowly faded. The sad thing is that out of my group of close friends, the ones that I saw everyday while I was a kid and throughout high school, two of them have passed away from a drug related problems and three have been in rehab.

I moved away from my home a long time ago. God called me to leave where I was and I went running. I truly believe that even when someone is going through a drug addiction, God is calling to them but the more they lose themselves the harder it is to hear the true voice of the Lord. There’s no moral in this blog, no witty turn around, just a prayer that we can all have enough strength to help those who can’t help themselves. I pray that we can turn away from temptations that will lead us down an empty shaft and that we have enough wisdom to know when to stop, listen, and follow the Lord’s call.

Thanks for reading - Adam
