James 4:6 states that God resist the proud but he gives grace to the humble.
This may seem strange to some, But the way up in the Kingdom of God is Down and the way Down in the Kingdom of God is up. If you exalt yourself God will humble you but if you humble yourself in due time God will exalt you. Humility is the key to everything. It can get you into doors of blessing that the proud are to proud to walk through. Pride can even enslave us. Have you ever seen a person who needed help but was too proud to ask for it so they suffer unnecessarily? If we're not careful Pride can make fools of us all. People lose friends because of pride, Family because of pride, Businesses because of Pride and much too often their Marriages all because they were too proud to say I'm sorry. The word Resist means to fight against.. so when God says that he resists the proud he's literally saying that he fights against all those who operate in the spirit of pride. Yes that means preachers too, no matter who you are God is actually working against us until we turn and repent. There may even be some plans you've been working and you just can't seem to figure out why they're not coming together. Sometimes our motives are wrong. Maybe we're doing it to be recognized by our peers or to receive the accolades of others. If you're not sure if that's the case it's best to ask the Lord if there's any pride in your heart that may be hindering your progress. Sometimes we think it’s the devil that's fighting us and really it's the Lord himself.
Humility can be maintained by consistent dependency upon other members in the body of Christ. No man is an Island. We all need somebody else to survive. Each of us is just a small part of a greater whole and Christ is the head. There's no excuse for anybody to get big headed no matter what they've been blessed to accomplish. If you can sing, God gave you that voice. If you can dance, God gave you those legs. If you can speak in such away that people want to listen, God gave you that gift of communication. So thank him always and watch him use you in an even greater way. I love you much in Jesus name
