The X Factor Season 3 airs another new episode tonight at 8 PM ET on FOX.

Sure, The X Factor might not have the ratings that Simon Cowell probably hoped for. That doesn't mean he, the judges or the contestants are calling it quits.

In fact the show devised a new format for the competition: "The Four Chair Challenge".

Don't let The Voice rip-off title fool you. Essentially The X Factor is taking a little inspiration from its reality singing competitors The Voice, and that little show over at FOX, American Idol.

Basically, out of the 10 acts/contestants from each of the 4 categories will be narrowed down to 4; hence the Four Chair Challenge. Even after a contestant is given a seat, each mentor/judge can "switch" them out for somebody that performs better and in their opinion has a better chance of winning.
