WCTV Apologizes for Insensitive ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Tweet During Darren Wilson Trial Verdict

WCTV issued an apology for a tweet they wrote on Monday about 'Dancing With The Stars' at the same time that they were airing the verdict for the Ferguson indictment case.

WCTV aired the conclusion to the Ferguson indictment case, where it was announced that the grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for fatally shooting the unarmed African-American youth Michael Brown.

The Chattanooga, Tennessee television station is affiliated with ABC, the home of the celebrity dance series 'Dancing With The Stars'. While the Ferguson case was being aired on their network, they sent out a tweet that reportedly read, "Don't worry, Dancing with the Stars will be back on after the special report. #Ferguson."

The tweet sparked outrage online, which led to the original tweet being deleted. However, reports of the tweet and screencaps of it are available on some websites such as Buzz Feed.

WCTV issued several apologies on Tuesday for their tweet, saying they have deleted the "poorly worded" post, and claimed that they "did not mean to be insensitive," and wished for viewers to accept their sincere apologies. However, people on social media slammed them and their apologies.

A Twitter user who received an individual apology from the network replied with, "it's too late now. You should have apologized to everyone earlier and stopped tweeting."

Another wrote, "a tweet exclusively for the racist, ignorant, dancing fanatics?"

Another Twitter user talked of them deleting their tweet, and said "because ignoring racism is as simple as deleting a racist tweet."

WCTV was not the only station to tweet viewers of 'Dancing with the Stars' and reassure them of the program's return. ABC's other affiliate station from Durham, North Carolina also made a similar announcement for their viewers.
