Thrice Frontman Says Band 'Never Disbanded' & Will be Playing Shows in 2015; Reveals Christianity Doesn't Cause Tension

Thrice

Thrice lead singer Dustin Kensrue was a special guest on the Bad Christian Podcast and he opened up about his band becoming active again and some of the solo projects he has coming out.

Thrice announced they would be going on hiatus in early 2012, but to devastated fans, this was the end of an era for them. Many took the news as the band breaking up as well, which just was not true.

"Thrice never disbanded. I tried to be super clear about this," he said with a laugh. "I started the whole announcement with, 'We are not breaking up'."

The BCP guys asked about the Thrice comeback rumors and whether they would be playing shows in 2015.

"I love making music with those guys, playing tours with those guys," he shared. "We will be doing shows this year."

Podcast co-host Matt Carter asked Kensrue which Thrice album he thought sold the most. The singer is certain it was Artist in the Ambulance (2003) because it was right before the whole music industry changed as far as making money and the way records are sold.

Co-host Joey Svendsen found it curious that Thrice was never considered a Christian band despite Kensrue's faith. The lead singer said the faith element never took precedent with the band and only really started being discussed once Kensrue came out with worship music and as a pastor.

Carter admitted he found out about Kensrue's Christianity much later after the band was established, which helped them create their own brand and identity.

He said that when he was in youth group he wanted to start a Christian band, but had "very good intentions, but very wrong thinking...in a wisdom sense." He said he learned as he went and always tried to remain "honest."

"I've been able to create a cool space with Thrice fans where people want to engage in these bigger questions that a lot of times are kind of taboo and divide people. Generally I've actually seen it bring people closer in relation to people that are fans of the band and a lot of the people who totally disagree with the things I believe in."

Kensrue said him writing from a Christian viewpoint never really caused any tension in the band despite not all of them being believers. "There have been little points in time where it's been intention of songs, and we've changed it. They understand the lyrics are a big part of the band." However, he did reveal he recently apologized if it ever caused them to feel any sort of way as he was trying his best to be creative and artful.

Tomorrow BC will write about Kensrue's thoughts on Mars Hill church and his time there.

It has been a couple of months since Thrice's single post that read "Thrice 2015" on their site. Now they are confirmed for the Canadian Amnesia Rock Fest. The tenth annual Canadian festival will be taking place June 18-21, and they will be playing alongside Linkin Park, System of a Down, the Offspring, and a slew of other bands.
