"The Originals" is scheduled to return next year for its fourth season, and rumor has it that the upcoming series will feature a crossover from "The Vampire Diaries."

According to reports, Alaric Saltzman, played by Matt Davis, will appear in the eighth episode of the new season of "The Originals." The character will reportedly look for Elijah as he seeks to deliver a valuable artifact.

If rumors about Alaric's appearance in season 4 are true, then he will be the fourth character to make a crossover in the series to meet Klaus Mikaelson. Other characters who previously made a crossover to "The Vampire Diaries" were Tyler, Matt and Stefan, played by Michael Trevino, Zack Roerig and Paul Wesley, respectively.

Rumors about a possible crossover coming to the series have begun months ago, with some fans speculating that Caroline, played by Candice King, will join the upcoming season so as to help Klaus as he heals from the Tunde Blade. In "The Vampire Diaries," Caroline is the ex-love interest of both Alaric and Klaus.

If Candice King will join "The Originals" season 4, then fans will be thrilled to see her reunite with the two men who have become a part of her life before. While Caroline has already parted ways with Alaric, she is still in the process of healing and is currently trying to get over the fact that they have already separated.

"The Originals" season 4 will see a five-year time jump from the events in the season 3 finale. It is expected to premiere on March 17, 2017.
