Tedashii Says Tragedy Makes People Respond 'Awkwardly'; Sharing His Story of Loss Through Music Makes Him Relive Heart Break

Christian rapper Tedashii was on this week's episode of the bad Christian Podcast where he opened up about the tragedy of losing his son and how sometimes people's intention of cheering someone up make things worse.

The Below Paradise rapper said some of the worst things people can do is say "It's going to be alright or it's God's plan." In those moments, that does not help, but all rationale goes out the window.

"That's not something you get over," he revealed, "I think the typical response to pain and suffering as a person who is not necessarily going through it but you want to befriend or care for someone who is, is to kind of get them over it, or move them beyond it, or try to see the good and bad of life and help them walk kind of in both worlds just to kind of ease the pain."

He continued, "Whenever someone did that, it felt as even knowingly or unknowingly selfish way, they were trying to avoid the awkwardness of what I felt."

Tedashii said doing the song "Chase" was his way to say, here is everything "I felt as a father, as a person who only had a certain amount of time with my son of the Earth." He said the song is for the world to see and sit in on it. "I hope that people who listen to this will sit in it with me enough to experience the awkwardness and move into empathy, sympathy, concern, or anything that the Lord could do beyond the general response of 'Hey, it's going to be okay.'"

"I have to share this publicly every city I go to, and in some ways relive it, retelling the story as I do it. That got hard."

Toby Morrell, co-host of the podcast and frontman of Christian rock band Emery said, "People want to hear the testimony, but they don't want to hear it while it's happening."

This was in reference to when sometimes Christians only want to hear the positive parts of trials, or hear the redemptive qualities about everything without admitting real struggles. Tedashii reflected this sentiment by sharing his experience as a Christian artist.

"My only negative experience with the Christian market is that they want me to say what I feel, but also come back with a fear that I'm painting Jesus in a horrible light as I share the truth of what I've experienced," he said, "And so it's been a good balance for me, but I wrestle with certain places to give them the reality."
