Switchfoot Trades Guitars for Shovels with Las Vegas SOS Radio and City Impact Center to Help Tend to Gardens at Urban Center

Switchfoot

Grammy and Dove Award winning rock band Switchfoot picked up gardening tools instead of guitars as volunteers at at Las Vegas non-profit, City Impact Center.

The band worked with SOS Radio listeners to weed, beautify and replant several garden beds in City Impact Center's Urban Garden. The purpose of the Urban Garden is to teach students how to plant, grow and harvest fruit & vegetables while also teaching economic skills.

Switchfoot has always cared about bringing hope to families and neighborhoods, and when the opportunity to partner with SOS Radio in Las Vegas came up to make a difference in the community, the band did not hesitate.

The band's song - "The World You Want" (listen to the audio on YouTube here) - from Switchfoot's most recent album, Fading West, inspires all to see the everyday opportunities in our own home and our own neighborhoods. Like the lyrics say, "You change the world, every day you're alive."

The effort was a product of Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman's Faith Initiative Program that kicked off in 2012. The goal of the initiative is to empower change in the city of Las Vegas through volunteers and faith based groups to accomplish great things in the city by working together. Local ABC News Channel 13 correspondent Beth Fisher was on site to cover the story which was featured as part of their ongoing Positively Las Vegas series. See the story here.

Switchfoot then later took the stage on Friday, July 9 for part our their tour. It was a sold out show at Mandalay Bay as they toured the country alongside NEEDTOBREATHE, Drew Holcomb and Colony House as part of Tour de Compadres.
