Singer Lindsay McCaul Talks New Album 'One More Step', Married Life, and Coping with Death of Her Father (VIDEO)

Contemporary singer Lindsay McCaul released her sophomore project and Centricity Music debut, One More Step, on Tuesday and BreatheCast caught up with the singer for an exclusive interview about the recording process, losing her father, and her extremely supportive husband.

McCaul with a new album, and new label has nothing but a promising future ahead of her. She revealed that she was "very excited" to play new songs live, "I've been playing the same songs for years now," McCaul laughingly said.

"I'm really excited about this new album. It's very close to my heart. There's a lot of personal story songs on there that hopefully are disguised as songs that can be grasped by everyone," she mentioned that the songs are, "snapshots of my life."

Although a very gifted songwriter and worshiper, McCaul admitted, "with this new album I tried harder to write up-tempo songs because those don't come natural to me. All the while keeping lyrics that are deep and keeping scriptural truth."

McCaul's recent single "Empty handed" has been touching the hearts of many and the singer said, "it really came out of a couple different situations in my life." McCaul aligns the song to the ministry of the apostle Paul and his words in Philippians 3.

She went on to explain, "Paul has this encounter with Jesus and he realizes even though he brings nothing, when we are found in Jesus and accept him we have everything."

"That is the most incredible exchange in human history ever, so I wanted to write a celebratory song about that truth," she said.

McCaul noticeably rooted and grounded in the word of God did not refrain from sharing the wisdom she had gained from her walk up to this point. The 30-year-old declared, "We get life from Jesus, we get his life that he purchased for us."

The Nashville resident has been married for three years and she said her husband, Mark, has been great example of a man of God in her life, "I just love watching my husband come to Jesus... it's been cool to watch that," she stated.

McCaul transparently expounded a bit more about marriage, "It's been a huge transition for me, cause I got married at 27. I started serving the Lord in music before I got married so it's been challenging but really cool."

Being married to her life partner has helped her see how "God has built marriage," she noted, adding that she sees that she could "really trust" her "husband's leadership."

"He's trying to walk faithfully with Jesus and it inspires me to try and walk faithfully with Jesus also... it's also been cool to realize that your spouse doesn't complete you. Jesus completes us," McCaul sustains.

The Florida raised singer said that having her husband believe in her when she didn't believe in herself has been a great help to her, "He's been a champion and cheerleader for me. It's been a huge encouragement to me," she shared.

"One of the songs on my album wouldn't have been on the album if it wasn't for my husband and now that it's on there I couldn't imagine it not being on there," she added, talking about her song, "With the Broken Hearted."

Her marriage is not the only relationship that impacted the album, McCaul talks about a great loss she encountered when her father went home to be with the Lord. The title track "One More Step" is about her dad and their relationship. The song talks about the "different fazes of our life and seeing him finish his race well... so it's very close to my heart," she disclosed.

"It's my favorite song on the album," McCaul stated adding, " [He] inspired me to run well and finish well."

One More Step, has a total of 11 songs on the album, but the singer revealed she wrote over 70 songs and picked the ones that she felt represented the album best.

McCaul currently leads worship at Fellowship Church in Nashville, "I love, love my church and love being plugged in there... for me being plugged into my church is life giving in a different way then being out and touring is..." she said.

Adding, "I'm sitting under the teaching there that's refreshing my heart so that I can go out and tour. They're enabling and empowering us to go out in the name of Jesus. I would encourage any artist to be plugged into their local church too."

McCaul attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois and studied linguistics with the goal of eventually living abroad and translating the Bible. Although she did obtain a degree in Applied Linguistics, things changed after a missionary trip to Ethiopia when some of the women in the country spoke to her and said "'We feel like God is telling us you are called to music ministry,'" the singer recalled.

She went on to say, "Right after that God started opening the doors for me to lead worship and come down to Nashville."

"God is safe and we can trust him, he's more concerned with His Glory then we are," she advised, "It's been an awesome thing to watch him redirect all my plans that I so carefully laid...the Lord is like 'you have to trust me, that my plans are better.'"

McCaul will be on tour with Jason Gray, Unspoken, and Carrollton throughout September-November.

"Touring with a lot of guys is interesting I never had brothers, I'm one of five girls so it's quite of a culture shock," she said about always touring with men, "It's good they're such good guys, I've been really really blessed with amazing tours, and tours with incredible artist who are the real deal.

McCaul ended her interview by stating that she just wants her new music to be used as an instrument to draw people to God.

"I'm just praying that this album will be pointing people to Jesus and that it would be a tool that would remind them that He is Sovereign and that He is good and that He loves us and that's He's faithful like He says in Romans 8:28 to work all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose... so that's my prayer," she declared.
