WWE News 2015: Shawn Michaels Says 'I See Christ As One of The Greatest Rebels of All Time'

Former WWE Wrestler Shawn Michaels recently addressed how he became the Christian he is today in an interview. One of the most memorable portions of the interview made mention his feelings toward Christ, and how he believes he was one of the "greatest rebels of all time."

When World Wrestling Entertainment Superstar Shawn Michaels was in high school, nothing was greater to him than to wear a championship belt as a professional wrestler. For him, pursuing the championship belt was the greatest badge of honor that it consumed not only his life but himself as well.

"It really became, you know, I'm a wrestler. That's what we do. There was also a certain badge of honor in being one of those guys that could go out there, tear down that house in front of those people and then go and run all night, then get up the next day and do it again. You wore that like a badge of honor," Shawn adds.

"I just couldn't get enough of it. And I just knew that was what I wanted to do. The hard part obviously are trying to convince everybody else that I wanted to do it," Shawn tells CBN.

Shawn went to college for a couple of semesters to make his parents happy; however, he came back to his dad and told him, "I'm wasting your money and I feel like I am wasting my time. I'm trying to do this, please let me try wrestling. You know I can do it," he said.

So, he dropped out of college and began pursuing wrestling. After making it to the wrestling, Shawn turned some heads and other wrestling professionals saw his natural ability. They taught him professional wrestling and some of the tricks he needed in order to succeed.

On the road to his wrestling career he came across Marty Janetty. The two became friends and eventually as wrestling partners. The duo ultimately became "The Midnight Rockers."

Soon Marty and Michaels were getting notoriety as they were professionally moving up, but it was more on the negative side.

"At the time I thought being a rebel was cool, doing it to stick it to the man. You know, if you're desperate enough for attention, any attention will make you feel better. I was so desperate just to be noticed, to get that attention," Shawn said, "it's like a child, negative attention is better than no attention at all."

When the duo had a fight with another wrestler one night in a bar, they did not fail to get the attention of WWE's president, Vincent McMahon. Shawn will never forget how their conversation went when they were called by McMahon to let them know that other pro wrestlers do not like them there and fired them both at the same time.

Shawn was completely devastated with the decision. His disappointment and resentment led to his addiction to drugs. He thought of giving up everything, but only for a short time. Soon enough, he finally ended his partnership with Marty and tried to do everything on his own instead.

Shawn took a lot of criticism from different people after he began his solo career. It didn't stop him from moving up and go into intercontinental championship. Eventually his career finally took off, but his personal life was still going downwards. He was back in the fast lane and so was his drug use.

His life changed when he met Rebecca. Shawn and Rebecca got married less than six weeks after they met. After the birth of their first child, Shawn finally decided to make some changes in his life. When Rebecca suggested they go to church one Sunday, Shawn did not hesitate. He recalls attending the church for the first time, and from there he truly had a change of heart.

"He just changed my heart. That's why it has stuck. If I truly believe everything that's in that book, God is in control. He is in control. He's working for my good. Doesn't mean everything's going to be smooth, but that's all I needed to know," Shawn said.

With a changed heart, Shawn now uses his passion (his wrestling career) as a platform to share his story.

"I've always wanted to be a rebel. I've never wanted to do what everybody else is doing. Man, I've got news for you, that is what I'm really doing now, and it's the coolest thing ever. I got to know the person of Christ. I see him as one of the greatest rebels of all time. That's what really appeals to me," Shawn said.
