Satanist Group From Oklahoma Unveils Design for Seven Foot Statue of Baphomet at State Capitol Next to Ten Commandments

A New York based group has unveiled designs for a seven-foot tall statue of Satan that they want erected in the Oklahoma state capitol.

The groups of Satanist have said if the state allows a statue of the Ten Commandments at the state's capitol then they should also allow a satanic statue.

The massive statue would be of Baphomet, the horned goat god of pagans and Satanists. The goat is shown sitting on a throne with a large inverted pentagram and has two smiling children on each side.

According to the group's site, the statue would have "a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation."

Years ago, the Oklahoma state Legislature authorized the installment of a privately-funded Ten Commandments statue on the lawn of the Oklahoma state capitol.

In the name of religious equality, the Satanic group notified the state's Capitol Preservation Commission that it wants to donate a monument. Early this week the group submitted the designs.

"We believe that all monuments should be in good taste and consistent with community standards," Lucien Greaves, a spokesman for the temple said in a letter to the commission. "Our proposed monument, as an homage to the historic/literary Satan, will certainly abide by these guidelines."

As of right now the state commission has put up a moratorium on the request. Commission said it wants to wait until a lawsuit over the Ten Commandments monument is settled first.
