Roma Downey received an honorary Doctorate from a Northern Ireland university for all of her services to film and drama.

Downey has done exceptionally well with all of her recent projects and now the actress has received an honorary doctorate for Fine Art (DFA) in recognition of her contribution to acting and philanthropy. Downey is from Londonderry, Ireland and was honored by the University of Ulster of which she is an alumna.

The Touched By an Angel actress recently starred as Mary in the film Son of God that she and her husband Mark Burnett produced. She is also well known for her appearance in a number of TV shows, including The Division.

According to BBC, when talking about the honorary degree, she said, "It is very special, my entire family will be showing up. I am delighted and thrilled."

She added, "It is so nice to be home, I have come back regularly over the last 25 years - I reside in Los Angeles, but I love coming home, it is like coming back to the well, I feel it is restorative and regenerative."

Downey and husband Burnett produced "Son of God," which grossed over $67 million in the U.S. and was adapted from their 10-hour miniseries "The Bible," which aired last year on the History Channel and was seen by 13.1 million viewers, the largest cable television audience of 2013 to date.

The two are also producers on MGM's upcoming reboot of Ben-Hur, and an upcoming family film entitled Little Boy.
