'Riverdale' Cast News: Molly Ringwald Going To Portray Archie's Mom Mary Andrews

The CW has offered another sneak peek into the world of its upcoming drama, "Riverdale," which is largely based on the popular "Archie" comics.

The new poster features Archie, Betty and Veronica seated at a Pop's diner booth, as Jughead, Cheryl and Josie look in through the window. It comes with the tagline, "A great place to get away with it all."

It was previously reported that Molly Ringwald is set to bring a bit of 80's realness to the series, as the "Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" star has booked a recurring role on it. In the upcoming series, she will play the role of Archie's mother Mary Andrews.

Based on the description for Ringwald's role, she left Riverdale two years ago to pursue her dreams. However, she has to blow back into her hometown due to family matters. As she returns, she reconnects with Archie and her husband, Fred, as well as with her former high school friends Hermione and Alice. She reappears just in time for the Homecoming Dance.

"Riverdale" is produced by Warner Bros. Television and executive produced by "The Flash" and "Supergirl" executive producer Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions. The series is set in the present day and is described as a subversive and surprising take on the characters, particularly Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, as it explores the surrealism of small-town life.

Set to premiere on January 26, 2017, "Riverdale" stars K.J. Apa as Archie, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, and Madelaine Petsch and Ashleigh Murray as Cheryl and Josie, respectively.
