'Reign' Season 2 Premiere Date, Spoilers, CW Start Time: Black Plague Inflicts Strife for French King & Queen

Season 2 of the historical fiction TV series 'Reign' will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 9 pm EDT on The CW and gives viewers a chance to see Francis with his newborn baby.

In the 'Reign' Season 1 finale, viewers saw Mary (played by Adelaide Kane) finally confessing to Francis (played by Toby Regbo) that Lola's (portrayed by Anna Popplewell) child is actually his.

In fact, she urged Francis to go to Lola, who was enduring potentially fatal labor in the countryside. However, Mary failed to realize that the Black Plague was taking lives throughout the land.

As soon as the new queen calculates the fatal consequences of Francis leaving the castle, she urges her husband not to go. However, Francis is determined to be there for the birth of his newborn child.

The official synopsis for Season 2 Episode 1 "The Plague," reads, "Life as king and queen of France will not be easy for Francis and Mary - and Lola's baby is not the main problem. Mary may have shut the gates behind Francis when he left to go to Lola's aid, but the Black Plague that was sweeping the country will find its way inside the castle walls. The Black Plague will not only threaten lives ... but also threaten the 'stability of their new rule'."

At the onset of the 'Reign' Season 2 premiere, viewers will see Francis still outside the castle with Lola and their newborn by his side. Now, the new "family" will try to get to safety back home. However, the synopsis teases that the new family is on "the wrong side of the quarantined gates."

When Francis tries to return to the castle, Mary and Catherine (played by Megan Follows) will be seen struggling to deal with "new and murderous foes."

As more and more people continue to die, nobles will be seen trying to acquire power in the kingdom. Now, what remains to be seen is whether or not Mary and Catherine will be able to stand firm against the pressure.

Somewhere else, Kenna (played Caitlin Stasey) will be in danger as she tries to save her and the young ward of Bash (Torrance Coombs). Even as her husband is prepared to do anything to protect her, the couple will be separated.

Even Greer (Celina Sinden) will be far away from her love - not physically, but emotionally. While she may have ended things with Leith (Jonathan Keltz) in Season 1, that does not mean she doesn't feel for him anymore.
