Redmi 2A Smartphone News: Priced at $80, Redmi 2A is Cheapest Xiaomi Handset

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi announced the Redmi 2A handset in March and now people can acquire it in China. While the Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with a price tag of $115 (713 yuan in the local market), the company has priced the Redmi 2A more economically at only $80 (499 yuan), thereby making the device the cheapest Xiaomi handset in the market.

IB Times quotes Xiaomi Today stating that at the time of announcing the Redmi 2A, it was priced at $100 (620 yuan). Nevertheless, the Chinese tech firm has launched the device with a discounted price tag.

As far as the specs of the Xiaomi Redmi 2A are concerned, the device sports a 4.7-inch display that supports HD resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. According to Xiaomi Today, Sharp and AIO have supplied the device's display. On the other hand, instead of using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset, which powers the Redmi 2, the Redmi 2A is powered by Leadcore L1860 chipset, a lesser known processor.

The quad-core processor has the capacity to deliver a clocking speed of 1.5 GHz. In addition, the Leadcore L1860 chipset comes with Mali-T68 MP2 graphics and is supported by 1 GB of RAM. The Redmi 2A has 8 GB of internal storage, which can be increased via a 32 GB microSD card.

In terms of the camera division, Redmi 2A comes with an 8 megapixel primary shooter on the rear side, in addition to a 2 MP selfie front-facing camera. The Redmi 2A comes pre-installed with Android 5.0 Lollipop that is superimposed with Xiaomi's proprietary MIUI 6 software.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2A offers dual-SIM facility, as the device is mainly aimed at the Chinese markets, it will be usable on the 2G, 3G as well as 4G networks of China Mobile. On the other hand, subscribers of China Unicom will only be able to use 2G connectivity. However, the latest Xiaomi handset also supports Wi-Fi and 4.0 Bluetooth.

While Xiaomi is yet to confirm if the Redmi 2A will be sold outside China, it is interesting to note that the Chinese tech firm is endeavoring to expand into international markets. Live Mint states that Xiaomi has already started mi.com stores in the United States, France, Britain and Germany.
