Rapper Stands Behind Calling Nicki Minaj 'A Puppet' During Rap Battle; 'The Truth Doesn't Change' [WATCH HERE]

Dee-1

Sway in The Morning featured a number of rappers from the Christian community in his 2014 end of the year, Dooms Day Cypher and Dee-1 used his platform to advise young girls not to model after Nicki Minaj, calling her a "puppet." In a new video the rapper further explains and defends his statements.

Dee-1's comments caused an uproar from Nicki fans who believed he was just "hating" on the super star emcee.

"If God tell me to, I does it, " he rapped in the cypher, "Young queens stop looking up to Nicki Minaj, she's a puppet, we aint go no role models just a bunch of lying rappers, I work like a slave but I serve the right master."

Rapzilla released the video of Dee-1 explaining what he meant during the battle. "I mean that's real, that's how I feel about," Dee-1 said in regards to his comments, " I didn't make the comments as a personal attack against Nicki, I didn't make the comments because I have a personal vendetta against Nicki, but I did make these comments because I've been given this platform to spread truth."

"I know that Nicki Minaj of all people is aware of how much of an influence she has on her fan base especially young females, young queens like I call them," he continued. Dee-1 then explained that he believes Nicki has a lot of people who look up to her and allow her music to spill over into their lives and want to imitate and idolize her.

"I feel like of all people Nicki Minaj is someone who presents very conflicted messages in terms of what she's trying to put out there," the rapper stated, "I'm not above being called out on my music either."

He explained that he had a platform and that is what he chose to say while on it. "The thing about the truth is that the truth doesn't change even if the truth comes from a place of love, it may be harsh sometimes but the truth doesn't change," he stated, "I don't want people to ever think that I'm ever trying to water down my purpose and my calling inside this rap game so that's what it is, that's how I feel about my statement."
