'Power Rangers' Movie Cast News & Rumors: Liam Hemsworth, Chloe Grace Moretz to Star in 2016 Film?

Lionsgate is taking the 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' into the 21st century with a reboot movie that is set to be released in 2016. The film follows the original plot of the 1990s children classic TV show which focuses on a band of high school kids who are given unique gifts to harness super powers in order to save the world.

SchmoesKnow reported that an insider from Lionsgate revealed that the film studio has already drafted the script for the movie through writer Max Landis.

While the final lineup of cast members has yet to be announced, actors Liam Hemsworth and Taylor Lautner are vying for two of the ranger spots. MTV News revealed that Chloe Moretz who starred in the recent film 'If I Stay' has already accepted the role of Kimberly Hart aka Pink Ranger.

Other potential casts include Michael B. Jordan (Red Power Ranger), Dylan O'Brien (Blue Power Ranger), Elle Fanning (Pink Power Ranger), Ansel Elgort (White Power Ranger), Diego (Black Power Ranger) Boneta, and Hailee Steinfield (Yellow Power Ranger). The reboot movie is based on the story written by Robert Orci.

Producer Haim Saban said that Lionsgate has the capability to revive legends such as 'Power Rangers' in such a way that does not deviate from the tradition, but also reinvents it for the current generation of moviegoers.

"Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our 'Power Rangers' brand to the next level," Saban said, "They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from 'The Hunger Games' to 'Twilight' and 'Divergent'."

Jon Feltheimer, CEO at Lionsgate, added, "The 'Power Rangers' stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever."

'Power Rangers' is expected to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
