Playstation 4 Slim Release Date: Still Uncertain, PS4 to Follow Fat To Slim Pattern?

It is known for a fact that Sony's Playstation line (except for the first Playstation) always get a slim version. The first Playstation 2 that was released was dubbed the "Fat Playstation" for being rather large compared to its slimmer version. Also, the first PS2 encountered its fair share of problems that included overheating and broken components.

A few years later, Sony released a smaller, thinner version of the "Fat Playstation 2." It was appropriately named the Playstation 2 Slim. It had a smaller profile, better ventilation, and software updates. It was also noticeably cheaper. This trend followed the rest of Sony's gaming devices, for the most part.

The first PSP was also thicker and bigger, mirroring the first PS2. It was aptly dubbed by owners as the "PSP Fat." Again, Sony released a thinner version of the big PSP which was dubbed the PSP Slim. The same thing happened with the PS3, a slim version followed a much bigger original model.

It wouldn't be a surprise if the same happened with the PS4. With the newest Sony console already on the market and in homes, there is bound to be emerging software and hardware problems. Fans of the console expect an announcement of a PS4 Slim from Sony, but only new games were unveiled.

It is still unconfirmed on whether Sony plans to release a slim version of the PS4. Following the pattern, it seems that an eventual release of a slim version is bound to happen, plus it would be cheaper and catch the attention of budget gamers.

A user that goes by the name of Alphatum on the Sony Community Forums said, "I might wait for a Slim announcement to decide. Sony's plans or aspirations may look good on paper but until I see the reality behind it, I'll decide whether or not to get one at launch."
