Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones Trailer Reveals Plot Set in Mexican Suburb of Los Angeles / Will This Spinoff Be as Disturbing as the Original? [TRAILER]

A new Paranormal Activity film will be released on January 3rd, 2014 called Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones that features a similar theme as the original. Surprisingly, there was no Paranormal Activity film in 2013, so the new film Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones will be the first film in the series in over a year.

The Paranormal Activity series is famous for its "found footage" type of filmmaking and its low-budget, grainy picture.

Drew Taylor at MovieFone.com writes, "A 'cousin' (as the producers refer to the film) of the original series sounds kind of dopey and sad, but the trailer is surprisingly effective. What makes it work so well is setting the movie inside the Mexican neighborhoods of Los Angeles, a culture that is incredibly Catholic and extremely superstitious. (Also, their folk art is brilliantly evocative and eerie - look at any Day of the Dead celebration.) Supposedly, the demon from the 'Paranormal Activity' is back, this time laying waste to an inner city Hispanic community."

Phil Contrino from BoxOffice.com says, "It's clear that audiences were growing a bit tired of 'Paranormal Activity' franchise, so a spin-off is the logical next step. It's too soon - even by Hollywood's standards - to reboot the franchise. Going after Latino moviegoers is an incredibly smart business decision. It's a strategy that will become much more common over the next several years."
