Oscar Pistorius Sentencing Date: 'Blade Runner' Facing 15 Years Imprisonment on October 13

Oscar Pistorius, the South African Olympic sprint runner nicknamed the "Blade Runner," now faces sentencing on Oct. 13 following his trial related to the fatal shooting of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines' Day last year.

On Sept. 12, a court in South Africa found Pistorius guilty of culpable homicide, and not murder. Pistorius had shot Reeva Steenkamp four times.

Initially, Pistorius had been acquitted of murder. Substantiating the firing, he had told the South African authorities that he thought an intruder had breached his home and was hiding behind the bathroom door.

On Oct. 13, Judge Thokozile Masipa will carry out the sentence. His punishment may range from a timed suspension and a fine or up to 15 years in prison. It was Judge Masipa one who carried out the verdict on Sept. 12.

Henke Pistorius, 61-year-old father of Oscar Pistorius, had talked about his relationship with his son from the time when the shooting took place on Feb. 2013. Henke had said, "We've said in various conversations and text messages we must get together and have a long talk."

Henke went on to say, "Since the tragedy, he hasn't had a decent talk with me. He hasn't yet talked to me from his heart. I know it's going to happen. It's going to happen soon and it will be good for both of us."

In fact, Henke had separated from Sheila, Oscar's mother, when Oscar was a teenager and expressed his regret at how he raised his children. Oscar's mother had died at the age of 43 when Oscar was only 15 years old.

"Perhaps I was sometimes too hard on Oscar. I was strict. I think I could have spent more time with my children when they were small. But I had to work. I had to earn money," Henke said.
