Hollywood's attempt to make a Christian film apparently failed according to a new report on the Huffington Post. The remake of 'Left Behind' was hailed the worst movie of 2014.

In a list of the 19 worst movies of 2014, Huffington Post named two Nicolas Cage movies in that list. One of them, a film called 'Rage' and the other, the remake of the original 'Left Behind'. The remake was budgeted at around 15 million dollars but its total box office numbers were only at $14 million.

The popular movie rating site Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 2% score. Lindsey Bahr from Entertainment Weekly said, "At best, 'Left Behind' is shoddily made sensationalist propaganda-with atrocious acting-that barely registers as entertainment. At worst, it's profoundly moronic."

'Left Behind' follows the epic story of a group of survivors after millions of people suddenly vanish and the world is spun into chaos with destruction in its wake. The story is supposed to be based on the prophesied events of the Rapture described by John in the book of Revelation.

Cloud Ten Pictures, who created the original trilogy of films, also did the remake and were hoping to bring the film to a more mainstream audience. Although they did succeed at getting a lot of press for the film with its "A-list" actors, including Cage, after watching the film both Christian and secular media had some pretty harsh things to say about it.

Much like the reviews from the secular world The Christian Post, a well-known faith based publication showed no mercy when reviewing the film either. Stating that the film had "Poor Dialogue, Abysmal Cinematography and Flat Performances."

"Looking back at its predecessors, 'Left Behind' failed to replicate the appeal of the Kirk Cameron-starred film series of the same name," the publication reported, "Moreover, 'Left Behind' is a far cry from Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins' massively popular books on which the film is based."

Another complaint was that the faith-based movie did not provide enough information on what the biblical Rapture is. "In conclusion, where 'Left Behind' could have instructed believers and non-believers alike on the story of the rapture, the film disappointingly trips over cheap special effects and a painful script."

Another Christian publication, New Release Tuesday shared a similar negative reaction to the film, with a headline that reads, "When Story is Left Behind."

'Left Behind' is set to release on VOD on December 23, for the holidays and will be followed by DVD and Blu-ray on January 6, 2015.
