New York City FC Transfer News Latest: Frank Lampard Signs Up for Yankee Stadium in 2015

Frank Lampard has been confirmed to be the latest big name signing for new MLS franchise team, New York City FC, which will kick off their debut season in 2015 from the Yankee Stadium.

The 36-year old former Chelsea midfielder will be joining Spanish forward David Villa along with two more players, making him the fourth to join the MLS.

The new FC are owned by Manchester City and the United State's Major League Baseball team, the New York Yankees. The team is expected to play at the Yankee Stadium on February 2015 when the MLS season starts.

New York's sporting director, Claudio Reyna is excited to have Lampard on-board the new MLS team and describes him as "one of the greatest players over the last 15 years."

He also added that Lampard "is a professional, a leader and he ticked all the boxes in terms of qualities to help grow out team."

For Lampard's part, there was little persuasion done to get him to play for the American football team. The feeling had been mutual between the NYC FC and Lampard himself, with the player himself excited about playing for the newly formed club.

"It's a very exciting challenge for me in life terms. I've seen a real long-term plan and I wanted to be part of that. I want to test myself. I want to carry on challenging myself. I had a fantastic 13 years with Chelsea that I can look back with pride upon. It was a good time for myself and Chelsea that I moved on," Lampard added.

Currently, David Beckham is playing for the LA Galaxy, another MLS FC, but the fact did not move Lampard to playing for the New York City FC.

"I know David pretty well, but we're not on every day speaking terms. I've spoken to him about his experiences in the MLS but the decision was all mine," Lampard said.
