World leader Nelson Mandela died several hours ago in his home in South Africa. Mandela because famous for his courage to speak up against wrongdoings in his home country of South Africa, such as apartheid. He often was punished for his views and spent over 27 years of his life in prison. He was 95 when he died.

South African President Jacob Zuma released a statement about Nelson Mandela's death. He said, "He is now resting. He is now at peace. Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father. Wherever we are in the country, wherever we are in the world... let us reaffirm his vision of a society in which none is exploited oppressed or dispossessed by another."

President Obama commented on Mandela's affect on his own life. He said, "Mandela achieved more than could be expected of any man. I cannot fully imagine my own life without the example Nelson Mandela set."

Nelson Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize and raised millions of dollars for humanitarian causes. Mandela's most famous quote was, "No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."
