'Narcos' Season 2 News, Update: Release Date Set In August; Netflix Ties With Network Giant Univision?

"Narcos" season 2 is upcoming and it is revealed that Netflix has connected with a network giant to air the series on broadcast TV.

Netflix has made ties with Spanish broadcasting network giant Univision to air "Narcos" season 2 on broadcast TV, New York Times has learned. As per the publication, the network, which is also set to televise the Spanish-language Netflix original series "Club de Cuervos," is also set to broadcast "Narcos" season 1 prior to the release of the forthcoming season 2.

The publication also noted that Netflix and Univision are set to broadcast "Club de Cuervos" season 1 prior to its second season. The series centers on a soccer team, whereas "Narcos" follows the Latin American drug kingpins in the late 1980s.

In line with Netflix and Univision broadcasting "Narcos" season 2, sources revealed that the latter company was paying residuals to performers while the former was not paying for the series marketing.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Netflix and Univision have just opened another window for marketing opportunity, involving rerunning television shows. As per the publication, the syndication market is facing certain profit conflicts and it has come up with a plan to market library licensing rights to streaming services in order to compensate for television program production costs.

In a statement, as cited by New York Times, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said that Narcos was a huge global success on Netflix and sampling the series to every single Spanish-speaking living room in the United States would give additional viewers the opportunity to fall in love with its unique storytelling.

"Promoting these original shows on Univision is a great way to further reach Hispanic audiences and help them discover Netflix," Sarandos added.

"Narcos" season 2 is set to air as a Network exclusive in August.
