Miss New York was crowned this year's Miss America but it was the second-runner up Miss Arkansas that had Christians all over the country applauding. Ashton Campbell used her platform to sing about the gospel of Jesus Christ with her rendition of "Via Dolorosa."

The red headed, freckled faced beauty contestant made the final five of the Miss America pageant on Sunday, and for her talent segment she performed "Via Dolorosa." The heartfelt lyrics were made popular by legendary Christian singer Sandy Patti. Miss Arkansas perhaps followed in the footsteps of the 1994 Miss America crowned queen, Alabama's Heather Whitestone McCallum, who made history as the first deaf Miss America, she chose "Via Dolorosa" as her talent piece as well back then.

"He was bleeding, from a beating/ there were stripes upon His back/ And He wore a crown of thorns upon His head/ And He bore with every step/ The scorn of those who cried out for His death," the chilling lyrics of the song read. The words are about the walk from Calvary to the point of Christ's crucifixion.

Campbell, 20-years-old, comes from Hindsville and her professional ambition is to obtain a dual Master's degree in Political Science and Business Administration. She has said in interviews that she wants to work on the corporate level as a Human Resource Director and Lobbyist but has not really made mention of her faith much.

On Sunday night, Campbell however, sang about the sacrifice Jesus made for the world as millions of viewers watched.

"Down the Via Dolorosa called the way of suffering/ Like a lamb came the Messiah, Christ the King/ But He chose to walk that road out of His love/ For you and me/ Down the Via Dolorosa, all the way to Calvary," she sung.
