'Minecraft' Releases 'Journey To The West' Skin Pack, Launching 'Overworld Update' Later This Month

In line with the start of the Chinese New Year, Mojang has released a skin pack for "Minecraft" inspired by the characters of the Chinese classic "Journey to the West."

According to Microsoft, "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta" and "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" are set to revitalize the characters of the Chinese classical tales with the newly released skin packs.

As per the publication, "Minecraft" gamers can play as Monkey King or choose from more than a dozen characters from Chinese folk stories, including Lord-Hundred Eyes and Princess Iron Fan. The game allows players to start their own journey to uncover hidden dungeons, work with disciples, defend and save villages from monsters, and become enlightened.

Authored by Wu Cheng'en, "Journey to the West" is one of the "Four Great Classical Novels" of Chinese literature. It reached people when it was published in the 16th century during the Ming dynasty. It is known as "Monkey," the title of Arthur Waley's famous abridged translation, in English-speaking territories.

According to the official Xbox website, the new skin packs can be purchased for $1.99 each, barring Guanyin and Red Boy, which can be downloaded for free. Other characters that are parts of the skin packs are Friar Sand, Xuanzang, Black Wind Demon, Pale Bone Demon, Spider Demon, Lady Earth Flow, Monk Pig, Jade Emperor, and Bull Demon King.

Along with the new content, Mojang has also announced that it will launch a big update later this month.

According to reports, the patch dubbed "Overworld Update" will let players build more advanced mechanical contraptions with additional redstone components, and comparators, repeaters, dispensers, droppers, hoppers, trapped chests and new Minecart types. Cauldrons in witch huts will contain randomly generated potions, and the Windows 10 version will get eight new achievements.

The "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta" can be purchased in the Windows Store, while "Minecraft: Pocket Edition" can be downloaded from the iOS App Store, Google Play Store, Amazon, or the Windows Store.
