Miami Heat Rumors / Biggest Problems Heat Face Going Into Next Season: Luxury Cap Issues, More Rebounds, LeBron Free Agent 2014

The Miami Heat have been the best team in the NBA, for the last two years. Coming off two consecutive Finals championships, the Heat come into next season as the favorite to three-peat. That means every team going into the 2014 NBA season will want to knock the Heat off their high throne. In the wise words of Jimmy Cliff:

"The harder they come, the harder they fall."

At times, the Heat seemed invincible, winning 27 in a row and breezing by the first two rounds of the 2013 playoffs.

But LeBron James and Pat Riley are too smart to know there aren't some red flags going into the off-season; even after back-to-back championships.

The first thing Pat Riley needs to nip in the bud is their salary cap. Right now the Heat reportedly owe $85.7 million in guaranteed money next year. The salary cap is expected to be around the $58.5 million, with the luxury cap limit somewhere around $71 million. That's about $15 million over the cap! Will the Heat amnesty Mike Miller?

Despite being the best team in the world last year, the Heat were the worst rebounders, posting a league-worst 38.6 rebounds per game. Chris Andersen provided some good paint presence, while Chris Bosh acquiesced his Big 3 title.

Rumors Pat Riley may be picking up injury-prone big man Greg Oden in to plug the lane. Low risk, high reward. I like it Pat.

What about Dwayne Wade's knees? Wade had a conversation with his knees going into the 2013 Finals against the Spurs, and convinced them to hold out for a few more games of the season. Can Wade talk them into another full season, that will most likely lead to another grueling playoffs?

The final potential road block between the Miami Heat and a third consecutive Finals championship centers around the King. As soon as LeBron was a free agent, and chose the Heat, he was bludgeoned by the media. With another contract ending in 2014, where will LeBron decide to take his talents when the time comes? A three-peat could go along with in cementing that decision come summer 2014.
