Singer Mandisa ran on stage without heels during her performance of 'Overcomer' at the 45th annual Dove Awards, then won her first Dove Award of her career.

Mandisa was named the Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year winner at this year's Dove Awards shortly after she hit the stage to perform hit single "Overcomer." The powerful singer walked on stage to receive her award with purple heels in her hand and explained that she was not ready for her performance. She was happy her name was called on stage and had the opportunity to explain the mishap.

Mandisa elaborated on Facebook what happened just minutes before she hit the stage.

"They called me backstage really early before I performed 'Overcomer'. I had so much time that I decided to take a trip to my dressing room to retouch my makeup, do some vocal exercises and um...well, when I get nervous I have to use the bathroom, ok?" she wrote.

She went on to say that an escort came and told her it was almost time to head to the stage. As she got to the stage she was handed her in ear monitors and realized she did not have an easy place to attach the sound pack to.

 "I began the long process of finding a place to attach it; boys have it so easy. They just stick it in their pocket and call it a day. If pantyhose and a dress are part of your wardrobe, it takes a little more work! Just as I found a suitable spot and ran my inner ear monitors down my dress to attach, I reached for my 4.5 inch purple heels to put on when...what is that I hear?! My intro music streaming on stage!?!?" she explained, "Did that man just say, 'Give it up for Mandisa'?!" Noooooo!!!"

A frantic Mandisa then ran on stage just in time to "breathlessly belt out" the first line of her song.

"Did I mention that I still had my slippers on? Ugh" she noted, "Let's just say it included a wild, shoeless performance, my first career Dove Award, and a frantic acceptance speech with a Dove Award in one hand and purple heels in the other."

The heel/slipper malfunction would have probably went unnoticed had the singer not explain what happened. She provided a passionate performance of her song and got the crowd worked up.
