Macbook Air Retina 2014 Release Date, Specs Rumors: Late 2014 Launch Expected, High-Resolution Display, Slender Design

Rumors have emerged on the internet claiming that Apple will release the latest MacBook Air Retina later in 2014. The new device will sport a 12-inch high-resolution display, a more slender design and will be more portable than the existing 13-inch MacBook Air.

In fact, Apple slashed the price of MacBook Air by $100 early this year, which indicates that a new Macbook Air Retina seems likely to launch without a major price hike.

According to the most recent rumor, the Cupertino-headquarted tech giant will commence MacBook Air Retina production sometime in Q3. If that is the case, then the device will be ready for release during the holiday shopping season this year.

Sources told Digitimes that if Apple starts producing the device (likely to have a Retina Display) between July and September, it would be available on the market in December of this year.

Reports claim that changes to the MacBook Air Retina will involve its display size and high-resolution. If these reports hold true, then this means that modification of the internal components will be necessary. This could heavily affect battery life and potentially remove the cooling fan entirely.

A report posting in April asserted that Apple has hired watchmakers to design the intricate internal setup required to shrink the Macbook Air, get rid of a fan, and keep the system sufficiently cool for a GPU that supports a Retina display.

Some speculate that Apple will use a flexible batter in place of the regular one to will the otherwise unallocated space. The existing MacBook Air offers 9-hour battery life in the 11-inch model, and devices with high-resolution displays naturally use more power. Hence, it will be necessary for Apple to strike a compromise between slender design and extended battery life, if the new device is to be a portable powerhouse.
