Liam Neeson on Natasha Richardson Death: Struggling to Believe Wife's Death Is True

Liam Neeson recently opened up about the heart wrenching moment when his wife's life support machine was shut off five years ago. The actor has been having trouble accepting that the death of his wife is real.

The actor said, 'Her death was never real. It still kind of isn't. There's periods now when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years... anytime I hear that door opening, I still think I'm going to hear her.'

The parent trap star, Natasha Richardson passed away tragically after what seemed to be a minor skiing accident in 2009. Age 45, the actress appeared to be okay right after the accident, but eventually her health deteriorated and she passed away in a hospital a few days later.

"She and I had made a pact. If any of us got into a vegetative state we'd pull the plug. So when I saw her and saw all these tubes and stuff that was my immediate thought, 'OK, these tubes have to go. She's gone'," said the actor.

"It hits you," the actor said, "It's like a wave. You just get this profound feeling of instability. The earth isn't stable anymore and then it passes and it becomes more infrequent, but I still get it sometimes."

The 'Taken' and 'Schindler's List' star now resides with the pair's children, Daniel, 17, and Michael, 18, in the U.S.

Neeson and his wife had met on the set of the film 'Nell', and Richardson was the daughter of Tony Richardson, the late director, and Oscar winning actress Vanessa Redgrave.
