Levi the Poet Releases Good Friday Inspired Spoken Word Piece 'Tetelestai'; Theme Focuses on Christ's Final Words [WATCH HERE]

Levi the Poet

Spoken word artist Levi the Poet released a new piece for Good Friday called "Tetelestai " that speaks about Jesus' crucifixion and the impact it had on his life.

Levi said Jesus' final words of "it is finished" are three words he simply can not comprehend.

"The Jesus Storybook Bible says this about Jesus' crucifixion: 'God was going to pour into Jesus' heart all the sadness and brokenness in people's hearts'," he wrote on Facebook. "I wrote Tetelestai because I wanted to try to capture some of what welled up in my heart when I read that children's bible. I wrote it because I wanted it to be a resource for others who hoped to put words to the weight of this day that we remember together. I hope it accomplishes that end for you. I hope that it proves helpful for the rest of you who seek to rest on this promise with me: 'it is finished'."

Levi approached the poem in his signature fashion of hitting with heavy and emotional dialogues to make the listener think. His cadence and flow as he describes a narrative and also his personal reflections on this day are impeccable.

He opens up the poem by talking about Jesus being betrayed, and the description he uses is unbelievable. He also compares what people do to Jesus as us being similar.

"When your betrayer kissed your cheek, did he slip his serpents tongue between his 'Greetings, Rabbi', and did you feel it forked and flickering against your skin? I guess it's vulgar, but I wouldn't put it past him. My tongue is shaped the same."

Levi goes on further and talks about the thief on the cross and also Jesus rising again. However, without revealing anymore, it is best to experience the piece yourself.
