According to B&H Publishing Group, Lecrae's upcoming book title is named after what he and the 116 Clique are always proclaiming. This is a word found in the Bible that encapsulates everything the Reach Records rapper stands for.

The book will provide details of his difficult past, including childhood abuse, struggles with drugs and alcoholism, bouts of depression, and a close call suicide attempt.

"I am writing 'Unashamed' for all those who don't know who they are, who feel confined by the labels given to them," Lecrae shared in a press release, "This is for the outsiders looking for peace within."

As made evident by his mainstream success the Texas native believes it is indeed possible to remain faithfully Christian while being fully immersed in the world.

"As an artist, my ambition is to make honest music, and I feel the same way about writing this book," Lecrae continued, "I want to be honest about where I've come from and what I've learned along the way. I want to influence culture, to help catalyze and inspire, and help other people find understanding. If they find some inspiration and some clarity for their own lives, as they follow my journey, then I will have succeeded."

As part of the book launch by B&H and Lecrae, a multi-city media and promotional tour is planned to accompany it.

In a past interview the rapper told Rapzilla in detail that his upcoming book will explain why he has stormed the gates of the secular hip-hop community with his music.

"I think a book will help people understand not only the method to my madness, but my heart," he said in the video interview, "I also want the book to reveal kind of the faith that I hold and why I believe what I believe."

Lecrae is well known for being accepted by the secular community and noted that he is writing with the mindset that the audience will be reading as well. "People outside of the faith will be able to say, 'okay, I think I get it a little bit more,'" he continued.

Lecrae recently had himself quite a night at the 46th Annual GMA Dove Awards last week as he took home three major awards in Christian music's biggest night.

Lecrae won Doves for "Artist of the Year," "Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year" for Anomaly, and "Rap/Hip-Hop Song of the Year" for "All I Need is You."

These three awards bring Lecrae's total up to seven for his career, with his last win coming in 2013.
