KJ-52's 'Gameface' Anthem Inspired by High School Sports and the Full Armor of God; Says Be Ready or 'Get Run Over'

Christian rapper KJ-52 spoke about his hit single "Gameface" in a recent interview and revealed its correlation to putting on the full armor of God.

In an interview with Kevin Davis' Behind the Song feature on New Release Tuesday, the rapper shared that his involvement in high school sports was the inspiration behind the song.

"There was always a pre-game talk from the coach. I'll never forget one time he said 'you've done everything you need to do but you need to put your game face on and get your mind ready'. That always stuck with me," he shared.

KJ goes on to talk about phrases in workout culture such as "beast mode" and "getting in the zone." To him, putting your gameface on is in that same category.

"This parallels to our walk with God and what the Bible describes as 'the mind of Christ' and 'putting on the whole armor of God'," he said in the interview, "Scripture reminds us that this world is a battle and that we don't wrestle against flesh and blood. We have to be prepared for what we'll face. We as believers have to put on our "gameface" through prayer and the word of God. The Bible says physical exercise has some value, but our walk with God has eternal value."

KJ said people are "caged in" by many things in life - sin, fear, depression, and so on. "We're supposed to go 'beast mode'. I'm chasing my God. I'll run this race. That's the bottom line. That's such a picture of this world today. People fight just to get out of bed, fight traffic, fight temptation and fight the enemy. If you don't get your gameface on in this, life then you're going to get run over."
