Katy Perry Says Suicidal Thoughts Led Her to Write 'By the Grace of God' Song [VIDEO]

Pop star Katy Perry says she no longer believes in God but continues to draw attention to a song she titled "By the Grace of God," where the former Christian made several biblical references.

Perry revealed in a recent interview that when she wrote the song, she felt like ending her life due to the depression faced after her divorce with Russell Brand a few years ago.

"[It] is the first song that I wrote coming to make this record, when I was in a different place, I was in a darker place," said Perry to 'The Project' at the backstage of Perth Arena in Australia.

"Sometimes you can be blinded by your extreme emotions. I definitely was looking for answers, and during that time I wrote that song, and I was depressed and it was sad. And there were thoughts, but there were never actions...thankfully."

The 30-year-old California native revealed she wanted to share her side of the story because she believes many of her fans probably went through similar experiences during that difficult time in her life.

"You always feel like you're the only one going through it," said Perry.

Earlier this year, the "Last Friday Night" vocalist revealed she denounced her former Christian beliefs and faith.

"I don't believe in a Heaven or a Hell, or an old man sitting on a throne," said Perry to Marie Claire magazine in the January 2014 edition. "I'm not Buddhist, I'm not Hindu, I'm not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God."

As a result, several people voiced their feelings regarding the woman who was raised by her devout Pentecostal preacher parents Mary Christine Hudson and Maurice Keith Hudson.

"Do not love the world nor the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, isn't it the love of the father. Because everything in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life-no proceeds from the Father, but of the world. Katy back to God he still awaits," wrote Ricardo Oliveira on the YouTube comment section where he quoted 1 John 2:15-2:16 from the Bible two months ago.

Another person echoed the YouTube user's sentiments after some people accused the singer of performing a Satanic inspired ritual presentation at this year's Grammy Awards show, where she sang her "Dark Horse" song.

"PLEASE pray for Katy..God and satan are at war for her soul! There is warfare in the spirit world for ALL of us, but THIS battle is more public than most..Satan has made her a celebrity and given her the world, but the cost will be her soul. Come to JESUS, Katy, before its too late! He loves you sooo much!!!, wrote Suzi Major on the YouTube comment section eight months ago.
