'Jurassic World 2' News, Update: J.A. Bayona Confirms Movies Are Trilogy; Colin Trevorrow ‘Very Much Involved’

Following the success of Colin Trevorrow's "Jurassic World" in 2015, the film reportedly began a brand new trilogy, with the director deeply attached.

In an interview with Latino Review Media, "Jurassic World" sequel director J.A. Bayona explained that Colin Trevorrow was heavily linked to the film and had planned three films. He said that "Jurassic World" is a trilogy that Trevorrow had envisioned as a whole. Bayona revealed that they were writing the second chapter and it was very interesting where he was leading the story.

According to Bayona, he has grown up watching Steven Spielberg movies, saying he loves those movies and the legacy, adding that it was a question of being truthful to the legacy and bringing new stuff that people would appreciate.

"We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It's very exciting right now," Bayona said.

Along with confirming that the "Jurassic World" films are a trilogy, one of Bayona's first challenges is thinking on how his story will fit into the film's kind of storytelling, as per Collider. According to the publication, the director and writers are currently working on the screenplay and are assumed to start production toward the beginning of 2017.

The film stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who are set to reprise their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively. Derek Connolly and Michael Crichton, along with Trevorrow, are on board to pen the script.

Bayona's "Jurassic World 2" is slated to premiere in United States theaters on June 22, 2017.
