Christian televangelist Joni Eareckson Tada recalled her battle with depression after she became paralyzed as a result of a diving accident at the age of 17.

"I was so sick and tired of the despair and the feelings of self-pity, I cried out, 'God, if I can't die, show me how to live.' And I'm not kidding, the next morning I woke up a different person," said Tada to crowd who attended the Billy Graham Library event in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 8, according to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website.

At the event, Tada promoted her brand new book titled 'Beside Bethesda: 31 Days Toward Deeper Healing', where she discusses how people can get a better relationship with God and the spiritual healing that can occur as result of it, even when a situation looks hopeless.

"I'm convinced that when people are depressed and discouraged that God has not physically healed them or fixed their problems or changed their situation, (a spiritual change) doesn't take a long time," said Tada, "God can do a transformation overnight. He can do it in a short month."

One of the people who attended the event was James Gray, a paraplegic man who was stricken by a rare disease called Transverse myelitis over 30 years ago when he was 27-years-old.

"I can identify with her," said Gray in reference to the 'Joni and Friends' Christian television host and ministry organization founder, "Just her ability to overcome her trial, her physical trial."

At the end of the event, Tada also gave the audience some inspirational advice regarding the importance of accepting Jesus Christ as their personal savior.

"Rise today to a new, fresh level of trust and confidence in Him," said Tada, "Believe that His intentions for you are good. Look for God's hand in the hardship."
