John Lennon's Killer Mark David Chapman Explains How Jesus Christ Changed His 'Selfish' Nature

John Lennon's murderer, Mark David Chapman, recently talked about how accepting Jesus Christ as his savior changed him, as he continues to serve time in prison for the killing of the beloved Beatles band member over 30 years ago.

"That bright light of fame, of infamy, notoriety was there. I couldn't resist it," said Chapman to the parole board on August 20, 2014, where he was denied bail for the eighth time so far.

He went on to say, "I haven't had an interview in 24 years and believe me they come. It's not my interest anymore at all...Believe me I am not interested in any press whatsoever at all, and there has been many times where I could have and very recently too. I won't mention names, but you would be surprised."

Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life behind bars after he assassinated the music icon on December 8, 1980 in New York City. Reports say he stalked the late musician for months prior to Lennon's demise.

However, Chapman claims that he is a changed man now, after he became a Christian behind bars many years ago.

"I had extremely selfish motives for my own self-glory. That's the best way I can say it," said Chapman, "My focus is totally, it isn't on me anymore. God has helped me through the years to see, 'hey, there is other people in this world'. I am not perfect, still working on some things. Jesus has helped me to see that he loves me, and that is what has made the difference in my life is him."

Chapman then told the parole board about God's loving nature towards humanity, when he tried to get released from prison nearly two weeks ago.

"God loves us all whether we're celebrities or not, and he demonstrated his love by sending Christ to us," said Chapman.
